General information on real estate acquisition in Hungary
Since January 26, 1996 foreigners in Hungary can purchase homes, vacation properties and plots in the so-called inner areas of all localities directly with title deeds.
The only exceptions are agricultural land and buildings in conservation areas.

Once when buying property costs:
- Attorney fees for examination of the current land register extract, creating the purchase agreement and translation into German, submission of contracts for municipal office, State Office and Land Office: 1% of the purchase price but min. 500, - €.
- Regulatory fees for description: about 230, - € does not apply to EU citizens and Swiss nationals!
- Land transfer tax: the National Tax Office collects the acquisition of a residential property tax at the rate of 4% of the contract price.The real estate tax is provided about half a year after the transcription into account
- Commission: 3% of the purchase price plus postage.. VAT.
In addition to the consumption costs for the local media, the only regular costs are the collection of real estate taxes by the respective community. She is in most places about 50, - € per year; only in the so-called cure or resorts, like all right on Lake Balaton and surrounding villages such as Bad Hévíz is calculated annually per m² depending on the municipality 1-3 €.
